cleaning a dog kennel

Why should you clean your dog’s kennel? Cleaning the floors, getting rid of any mold and litter, and cleaning the dog runs will keep your kennel clean and reduce health threats to your dogs. Canine parvovirus type 2, for example, sometimes known as parvo, is a highly contagious and virulent virus. It spreads from dog to dog by direct contact with feces. And disinfecting and cleaning a dog kennel will kill the germs and reduce the possibility of spreading germs inside your dog kennel.

If you don’t clean your dog’s kennel regularly, bacteria and other diseases can grow in the kennel. This can make your dogs sick and could even make you or your family members sick from taking care of the dogs. This is why it’s important to clean your dog’s kennel regularly.

How to Clean A Dog Kennel

1. Start cleaning a dog kennel by removing the animals. Put them in a temporary enclosure.

2. Clear every removable thing out of the kennel. This includes feeding and water bowls, bedding, and toys. Depending on the size of your kennel, this could take some time.

3. After you’ve got rid of all the removable things, scoop out all the waste from the kennel and sweep up dust, dirt, and fur or hair.

4. Grab your hose and rinse the dog kennel down. You’ll want to remove all the dust and dirt left over from the last step. If there is still dirt left over after you spray, you may want to repeat this step once more. If you want, you can also use boiling water in the cleaning process to get rid of any mites in the kennel.

5. Apply disinfecting cleaner. You can apply this in foam or liquid form. The liquid form can be applied by mop and bucket, compressed air multipurpose sprayer, or a power washer with a soap dispenser. Foam can be applied by foam dispenser or industrial all-in-one brush and foam dispenser. Note: No need to cover every inch of the kennel, since you’ll spread the disinfectant when you scrub the kennel.

6. Scrub the kennel out with a brush. Use a stiff bristle brush to scrub the run from ceiling to floor, on all walls and doors. Repeat the process for each kennel, and don’t forget to scrub the walkways.

7. Allow appropriate contract time. Let the disinfectant stand for 10 minutes, the solution needs time to work its magic, the more time the better.

8. Rinse all surfaces with water. Starting from the top of each wall and working down to the floor, close the kennel door to rinse the exterior surfaces. Repeat the rinse in each kennel and finish by rinsing the walkways.

9. Use a squeegee to remove excess water from the walkway through the kennel doors into the kennels. Starting with the first kennel, use a squeegee to move the water on each floor down the drain. Allow the kennel floors to air dry. Repeat this till you are done with all the kennels.

10. Once the kennel is dried. Place feeding and water bowl, bedding, and toys back into the kennel. Now your kennel is all clean and ready for the next resident.

How Often Should You be Cleaning a Dog Kennel?

You should daily clean the kennel to keep the sickness away and deep-clean the kennel out once a week or once a month. It’s best to schedule regular cleanings of different types in your calendar and stick to a routine because keeping a regular cleaning schedule keeps dogs’ stress levels down.

It’s not always fun to clean a dog kennel, but it’s one of the most important tasks that has to be done. Cleaning a dog kennel can vary depending on the kennel size, layout, and how many dogs you have. The best time to clean your kennel is when you begin to see dust, dirt, and cobwebs.

Why Should You Clean A Kennel?

You should clean your dog’s kennel to keep the illnesses away from your dog. One of the illnesses your dogs can get from a dirty dog kennel is parvo. Parvo spreads through direct dog-to-dog contact and indirect contact with their feces, environments, or people. Dogs that are diagnosed with parvo have a very high chance of losing their lives. The virus attacks cells in a dog’s intestines and stops them from being able to absorb vital nutrients. This means that a dog or puppy will become very weak and dehydrated.

Cleaning a dog kennel is not just beneficial for you as you walk in and smell a clean dog kennel. But it is also beneficial for your dogs. A clean dog kennel will reduce the viruses from spreading between dogs and making them stay in a clean environment will provide a clean area for puppies, reducing the chance of getting viruses like parvo. Most importantly, cleaning a dog kennel and bedding will allow you to see any new changes like your female canine being pregnant or any other safety issues inside the dog kennel.

How Often Should You Bathe Your Dogs?

While each dog’s bathing schedule will be different, it’s best to wash your dog at least once a month to keep their skin and coat clean and keep their natural oils spread out to help the condition. Bathing your dog is important because it removes the buildup of dirt and debris on a dog’s skin and protects your dog from potential skin conditions like clogged pores, itchiness, dry skin, or oily skin. When a dog’s coat is unclean, its skin is unable to breathe, and it may develop skin problems that may require veterinary attention.

Unless there is a medical condition, we don’t recommend washing your dog more than once a month, this can dry out the skin and coat of your dog. Overwashing your dogs might create irritation, so be careful not to bathe them too frequently.
